President Darryl McFarlane was photographed with Ben Green (Liberal candidate for the Federal seat of Ballarat) and Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson.  The purpose of the event was to announce that the Federal Liberal Government has budgeted $4.5 million to build a new community centre.

Labor pledged the same amount in November 2021 if they were to win office.

The new building will be utilised as a new Senior Citizen Centre, an expanded kindergarten, Ballarat Community Health spaces and current user groups (including the Girl Guides and Lions Club).

The development will cost at least $8 million with at least half being funded by the City of Ballarat. Executive officer of the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre, Vicki Coltman said:

“It’s true to say that Sebastopol has been the poor cousin for the City of Ballarat for a long time. It’s great to see the senior citizens centre getting a revamp and become a community centre for everyone.”
